Thug Tears: A Collection of Hip-hop Posters

I grew up listening to hip-hop music thanks to a bunch of friends and the occasional listen to by my siblings through the radio. I’m a huge fan of Eminem, Fort Minor, Lil’ Wayne to name a few, and I respect the genre as a means of communication through the power of song.

This series of posters made by Davy Denduyver to reflect the current nature of rap and the trends it focuses on.

Thug Tears is a poster series inspired by hiphop’s current ’emo moment’. Ranging from underground soundcloud artists to chart toppers, more and more rappers seem to opening up with straight forward melodramatic lyrics aswell as taking fashion/image cues from hardcore/punk/emo subcultures. Visually inspired by these subcultures and using the aforementioned lyrics, the different layers and the concept of ‘opening up’ are key visual elements in this series.
“Rap is the new rock ‘n roll. We the rockstars.” – Kanye West, 2013.

Artists featured: Trippie Redd, Gab3, ILoveMAKONNEN, Horsehead, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Lil Peep, Smokepurpp & Lil Uzi Vert
